The New Flying Competition is an international scientific model flying competition with the goal of bringing new and innovative ideas to the aviation sector and improving the future of flying. In October 2016 the competition took place for the first time. Universities from all over the world participated in it. It was followed by two successfull contests in 2018 and 2020 and the next one is already being planned.
All the teams will work on the same task, that is created by our student team and a jury of industry representatives. The task is to develop concepts and solutions involving the future of civil aircraft technology and turning them into reality. During the competition, teams will present their final model concepts and show off their flying skills.
The New Flying Competition takes place in Hamburg, the third largest center for civil aviation in the world. The city is the hometown of the main German Airbus assembly site and the cabin competence center for the Airbus A380. Lufthansa Technik, a global leader in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector, also has its headquarters in Hamburg. 300 innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in the metropolitan region of Hamburg form a network of suppliers for the world-wide aviation industry. In total, more than 40,000 highly qualified and specialized people are currently working on the future of aviation in Hamburg.
